Velocity: Data processing in healthcare and fitness

As mentioned in our previous blog, there are five V’s of big data and they are velocity, volume, variety, value and veracity. These are the five significant characteristics of big data. Now, velocity can be defined as an attribute of big data that refers to how quickly data is generated and how fast that data moves or how fast the data is processed. Velocity is a concept that affects the data flow in a company or an organization which ultimately affects the best as well as the most important business decisions.

During the last couple of years, the field of analytics has seen unparalleled growth. With emerging technologies and the constant developments in the field of digital marketing, social media has become an integral part of our lives. For example, on average, about 900 million photos are uploaded on Facebook every day. In addition to that, approximately 500 million tweets are posted on Twitter and 0.4 million hours of video is uploaded on YouTube, every single day. Google has also reported that about 3.5 billion searches occur every day. To put it in simpler terms, a high amount of data is being generated in this digital world in the size of terabytes and petabytes, every passing second and all of this data needs to be processed in time so that the company or organization can continue working efficiently. Now, when we talk about data, we don’t only mean social media data but also medical data, banking data, transaction data, E-commerce data, business data, etc. As far as data processing is concerned, it specifically refers to the collection and manipulation of data to produce accurate information. However, in order to process the huge amount of data, several software, frameworks, tools and database file systems are essential. The different stages of data processing include collection, preparation, input, processing, output and last but not least, storage.

Furthermore, there are various types of data processing such as:

·      Batch processing

Data is collected and processed in batches. This method is used for large amounts of data, for example, the payroll system.

·      Real-time processing

In this method, as soon as the input is given, data is processed within no time. However, this method is used for small amounts of data such as customer service systems.

·      Online processing

In this method, data is automatically fed into the CPU as soon as it is made accessible. This method is used for the continuous processing of data and the best example is bar code scanning.

·      Multiprocessing

In this particular method, also known as parallel processing, data is broken down into smaller frames and processed using two or more CPUs within a single computer system. Multiprocessing is essential for weather forecasting.

·      Time-sharing

As suggested by its name, in this method, data and computer resources are allocated in time slots to several users, simultaneously. Android, iOS and Chrome OS are just a few examples of time-sharing.

With the implementation and execution of adequate security algorithms and protocols, it can be guaranteed that the data and processed information, both are kept safe while being stored securely without any unauthorized access or change. Data processing has had quite a huge impact on the healthcare industry. It is no mystery that the healthcare system in every country needs to run smoothly and as efficiently as possible. Most of the data included in this system are classified, confidential and time-sensitive, such as medical records or insurance records. Medical institutions and hospitals in developing countries such as India have started going digital, as far as the medical history of patients is concerned. This has made the lives of patients as well as the medical staff, so much easier since the retrieval of medical data is quicker which ultimately helps save lives. Looking up raw data and selecting relevant information for every different patient, each of them with their very own unique set of problems, is not really practical anymore. If it wasn’t for data processing, most of this information would have still been on paper, making it uncomfortable and inconvenient, not only for patients but also for the companies and hospitals. The time spent on finding and accessing the data is now put to better use, resulting in a competent system. The healthcare industry has been completely transformed ever since the introduction of digitization. One must also consider the fact that this has proven to be a very cost effective method as it results in the increment of the company or organization’s overall performance while also ruling out unnecessary steps that could thwart the entire method of data processing.

Nonetheless, every company and organization must ensure that data management as well as data storage is not slower than data production and that every outdated piece of information is eliminated. If not, the flow of data processing will be severely disturbed, consequently causing a significant damage.

  1. Very well written and explained. Velocity is the pace of data flow in any organization or business. For every organization has IOTs, social media channels, computer and mobile data, this means that there is data coming from all these devices at different rate and the data getting collected on daily basis is also very large. Handling velocity of this real-time data can enable researchers and organizations make useful judgments that generate strategic competitive advantages and ROI. The point that said managing and storing data should not be slower than data production to avoid any sort of damage was really something to keep in mind.

  2. For many people, the five V's of big data is a new concept to learn about. Healthcare data makes up a sizable amount of the data that is transmitted around the globe. As the Internet of Things, medical gadgets, machine learning, computational linguistics, and other revolutionary data creation and processing techniques advance, the figures will continue to climb. This blog focuses on the Velocity portion of the concept and goes into every detail. Personally, I believe this is an extremely important topic that is frequently overlooked. It helped me realize how quickly data is generated in today's environment and how much of an impact it has on organizations. The figures cited in the Facebook, Youtube, and other internet instances are astounding. Many business owners who are new to this notion can benefit from this information. The various types and stages of data processing help to simplify the overall notion. Overall, it's a very helpful and educational blog.

  3. In the world of health and wellbeing, the concept of velocity is fascinating. It's also fascinating to see how it affects the industry and how it functions. It also provides the advantages, types, and results of your investigation. Cost savings, convenience of use, and the ability to treat those with low quality or in rural areas are just a few of the benefits. The UN group does not have access to a doctor or clinic in the area. The use of velocity has risen considerably in the last decade as a result of these considerations. In the United States, seventy-six percent of hospitals now use velocity to connect doctors and patients remotely, up from thirty-five percent a decade ago. Velocity has become even more critical during the coronavirus (COVID-19) epidemic.

Big Data In Health & Fitness Industry

Big data is defined as data that is so massive and complicated that processing it using typical methods is difficult. The practice of acquiring and storing vast amounts of data for analytics has a long history. This massive amount of data necessitates cost-effective and creative data processing methods that provide better insight, decision-making, and process automation.  To process this information is where Machine learning comes in. Machine learning uses systems that are automated to label the data and find patterns in them. The data is then converted to insights that are usable and easy to understand.  To forecast and mold customer behavior, large databases are used. The field of fitness will undergo significant changes in the future as artificial intelligence gets more incorporated into our lives.  "Big Data is a data whose scale, distribution, diversity, and/or timeliness require the use of new technical architectures and analytics to enable insights that un...

Search engine optimization (SEO) in Health and Fitness industry

Search engine optimization or SEO is defined as the process that improves the quality and quantity of website traffic to a website or web page from search engines such as Google, Yahoo!, Bing and other search engines. In simpler terms, it is a technique that helps your website rank higher in search engine results pages (SERPs), ultimately increasing your website’s visibility by targeting people that are looking for your brand or product as an answer to their questions. Search engine optimization has become a mainstream activity in marketing as SEO plays a vital role in the ranking of these organizations and firms.   When someone searches for a brand or the product or the corporation itself, ideally, the company’s website should not only appear on the first page of the web search, but also in the top five search results. Hence, it is evident that a well-structured, effective and arresting website holds utmost importance when it comes to SEO. In addition to that, keywords pl...
